Spalding sneaks by Berea 1-0

Box Score

NCAA Division III Spalding University bests Berea 1-0 in Louisville.

The Berea College Men's Soccer team spent most of the first half playing defense, as the Spalding University forwards got open time after time, but could not connect as the wind sent shots wide, high and into the capable hands of Garrison Wagner (FR/Benton, KY).    High winds reaped havoc on both teams as easy passes were sent into impossible situations and turned save able shots into a near goals.

Berea's Million Beshah (SO/Atlanta, GA) got a great look at the 7:24, but the wind pushed his shot just wide right of the goal.  The conditions and Wagner's superb play kept the Golden Eagles out of the goal through the first half, as both teams went to the break empty handed.

Just as the case in the first half, Spalding came out in the second half and immediately put two shots on goal, each easily defended by Wagner.  Spalding found a sliver of open space in the Blue Crew defense off of a free kick at the 65:13 mark.  Jesse Massucco (JR/Moravian Falls, NC) got behind the Golden Eagle defense in the 88th minute, but his shot was saved by the Spalding goal keeper and ended the game.

The Berea men will be back in action on Wednesday the 24th when they travel over to St. Catherine College for a 7:30 pm match-up.
