BC loses 6-0 to NCAA Division III Spalding University.
The Berea College Mountaineers (1-5) had their hands full today with not just NCAA Division III Spalding University Golden Eagles (2-5), but also high winds that caused more than few problems controlling the ball.
The Golden Eagles went on the offensive just minutes into the game. Goal Keeper Vanessa Hamilton (SO/Montevideo, Uruguay) in her first time in goal was quick to block the Spalding shot with the ball going right back to a Golden Eagle attacker. She recovered that second shot to momentarily end the Spalding rally.
Kristin Cecil (FR/Bardstown, KY) replaced Hamilton in goal for the Mountaineers due to another player's injury. With that injury, the flood gates opened and Spalding preceded to go on a scoring tear beginning in the 33rd minute and continuing to the half's final horn to take a 4-0 lead to the locker room. Berea College had a great look at a goal with 13:15 left in the first, but the Stevie Ridley's shot was covered by the Golden Eagle keeper.
The second half was much like the first half for the Blue Crew as the Spalding offense kept the ball in their zone for most of the second stanza scoring in the 58th an 77nd minutes of the game. Jacquie Zimmerman led the way for Berea College as she was able to fire-off three shots, but was unable to find the goal.
The Berea women will be back in action on Thursday the 25th when they host Midway at 7:00 pm.
