Women's Soccer Blanks Johnson University

Box Score

Mary Esther State's pair of goals leads the Mountaineers.

Hot, dry and fast conditions at the Berea College Soccer Complex must have been exactly what the women's soccer offense was waiting for too find its stride; and stride they did.  The Mountaineers' passing was precise, the speed evident and their confidence high versus Johnson University.  The Blue Crew unleashed a torrent of shots on the Royals taking 24 on their way to a 3-0 victory.

Mary Esther States made the most of her minutes taking five shots on goal with two of those finding the back of the net.  Her first goal came in the first-half at the 24:28 mark just moments after missing a point-blank opportunity wide right.  Jacquie Zimmerman matched Esther, when she thumped a free kick above the Royal Goal Keeper, at 19:22 in the first half to close out the first stanza scoring.

States got her second goal at 27:36 remaining in second half off of a great feed from Stevie ReidleyCaitlin Taulbee and Layne Callow spent most of their day pushing the Blue Crew attack and keeping the ball on the Johnson defensive side of the field as they accounted for seven and six shots respectively.

The Blue Crew defense was just as hot as the temperature, as they denied the Johnson University offense repeatedly and when they Royals broke free, Annie Hammell stepped up big recording five saves and her first win in shutout fashion.

The ladies will have plenty of time to recover as they are not in action again until October 11 when they travel to western North Carolina where they will take on Warren Wilson College at 1:00 pm.
