Berea, Ky. - The Berea women's soccer team hosted Piedmont College Sunday at the Berea College Sports Complex for a rainy match. The Mountaineers had a rough battle with the Lions and Piedmont walked away with a 2-0 win. Mountaineer goalie Amber Follin finished with eight saves in the loss.
It was a slow start for both teams, with Berea's defense working hard to keep the Lions from scoring. Follin blocked numerous shots, but near the end of the first half, at the 39:08 and 40:49 minute marks, Piedmont scored two goals against the Mountaineers. Both goals were from Samantha Ishee to give Piedmont the 2-0 lead heading into halftime.
In the second half, the Mountaineers' defense held the Lions to four shots and kept them from adding to their lead. Berea managed five shots of their own during the 45 minutes, but were unable to solve Emily Skelton between the posts and Piedmont held on to take the 2-0 shutout over Berea.
Berea outshot Piedmont in the second half 5-4, but overall Piedmont outshot Berea, 23-8.
Miranda McHalley started in goal for the Lions and stopped one to take the win. Skelton came in to start the second and held off the Mountaineers with three saves.
Next up, the Mountaineers will be traveling to Oakland City University on Wednesday October 17, where they will take on the Mighty Oaks at 4:00 p.m.
