Women's soccer records shutout over Oakland City

Oakland City, IN- The Berea women's soccer team traveled to Indiana on Thursday to take on Oakland City University. The Mountaineers brought home the 2-0 win over the Mighty Oaks to secure their winning record for the 2018 season.

At the start of the first half, Berea got off to a slow start against Oakland City. However, at the 26:52 minute mark, Bailee Vanover scored the first goal with an assist from Madilyn Hord to give the Mountaineers an early lead. From that moment on, Berea remained on the offensive and relentlessly wore out the Mighty Oaks' defense. Both teams were unable to add to the score and the Mountaineers took the 1-0 lead into halftime.

During the second half, the Mountaineers continued to hold off the Mighty Oaks from scoring. The Mountaineers extended their lead at the 58:16 minute mark, when Stacey Keruwa scored the second goal for Berea from a scramble inside of the box. The Mountaineers' defense, along with Berea goalies Amber Follin and Jade Fulkerson, took care of Oakland City's offense to preserve the 2-0 shutout victory.

Follin was credited with the win and recorded four saves, while Fulkerson finished out the second half untested from the Mighty Oaks. Oakland City's goalies, Sydney Brooks had four stops and Jillian Beem finished with two.

Both teams had 16 shots apiece and Berea had a 5-2 advantage in corner kicks.

Up next, the Mountaineers will host Agnes Scott Saturday, October 20 at 4:30 p.m. in their last game of the regular season with playoffs on the line. Seniors, Amber Follin, Sohara Perez, Rebecca Schmidt and Glendy Pineda will be honored prior to game time.
