Berea, KY. – The Berea women's volleyball team hosted Oakland City Tuesday night at the Seabury Center. The Mountaineers struggled to find their offensive groove and the Mighty Oaks took advantage to dominate in three straight sets.

The Mountaineers started the first set off strong by quickly capitalizing on kills from Katherine Gonterman and Carolina Robles followed by errors from Oakland City to outscore the Mighty Oaks 4-1. Oakland City fought back to tie the score at 5-5 and took control for the rest of the set for the 25-14 win.

The second set was very similar to the first in terms of scoring. However, the beginning of this match was more even than the first, as the Mountaineers and the Mighty Oaks traded points back and forth until the two teams were even 8-8. Oakland City put together a string of dominant scoring streaks that ultimately helped take the second set 25-16.

The Mighty Oaks had an incredibly commanding start to the third match, opening with an eight point lead. Berea attempted to match the intensity of Oakland City with kills by Eliza Lavin and Robles to make the score 8-3 but the Mighty Oaks put together eight more kills and took advantage of numerous errors by Berea to win the match 25-10.

Berea's defense was led by Kristin Barnes who contributed 10 digs, while Jonesy McGregor added nine for the Mountaineers. Robles and Hannah Headrick led the Mountaineer offense for the second game in a row with six kills each with Gonterman following close behind with five. McGregor tallied 14 assists and Robles added 6.

The Mountaineers will take the court again on Saturday to face conference rivals Huntingdon and Brevard at 12:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m., respectively, in their first home tri-match of the season.
