Demorest, Ga. – The Piedmont Lions defeated the Berea Mountaineers in three consecutive sets on Saturday when the two teams faced off at the Cave Arena.
In the first set, both teams swapped punches until Piedmont pulled ahead. Katherine Gonterman worked hard for Berea, successfully making four kills in the first set. Numerous kills from Piedmont aided the Lions in their win of the first set. The Lions ended the set with a score of 25-18.
The second set turned out to be more difficult than the first for Berea. Piedmont won this set easily thanks to numerous kills by several Piedmont players. Berea managed to minimize the damage by making some effective kills and taking advantage of errors made by Piedmont. In the end, Berea lost momentum and Piedmont came out on top with a score of 25-12.
The final set was the best one for Berea, with the Mountaineers keeping up with the Loins until the end. Kristen Barnes had a good third set, leading the Mountaineers in kills for the set, along with several other players adding kills that kept Berea in the battle until the end. Piedmont finished the game with a score of 25-22 in the final set.
Kristen Barnes and Hannah Headrick came out on top today with five kills each. Jonesy McGregor had the most assists, ending with a total of seventeen. Hannah Headrick led defense with a total of eighteen digs.
Next up, the Mountaineers are set to take on Covenant College at home on Wednesday, October 3rd at 6:00 P.M.
