Berea, KY - Berea hosted a tri-match this weekend against Wesleyan College and Piedmont College. Berea ended the weekend taking the victory of both matches.
The Mountaineers started off the evening sweeping the Wesleyan Wolves (25-18, 25-7, 25-12). The Mountaineers had a rough start in the first set of the match letting the Wolves take the lead. The Wolves were up 14-10 before Berea scored four consecutive points to tie the set. This is when the Mountaineers started to gather their momentum and come together to work as a team to win the set. The Mountaineers kept the high energy through the second and third sets.
Idymel Ayala Rivera led the team with 16 assists and Fabiana De'Jesus had 13 digs.
In the second match, the Mountaineers faced the Piedmont Lions. Piedmont put up a fight in the first set but the Mountaineers still came out on top (25-20). The Mountaineers fought even harder the second set to give them more of an advantage over the Lions. The Mountaineers also took the second set (25-10). Piedmont started strong in the third set, building an 18-11 lead. The Mountaineers responded and managed to tie the third set 20-20 but Piedmont ended up taking the set (21-25). The Mountaineers came back out and fought for the fourth set, winning 25-19.
Idymel Ayala Rivera led the team with 30 assists followed by
Deanna De La Torre with 24 digs and
Julie Santana with 15 kills.

The Mountaineers will host Covenant College Tuesday, October 26 at 7p.m.
