Men’s Basketball Routs Bethany in Lauren Hill Classic

Cincinnati, OH - The Berea College men's basketball team managed a split in the Lauren Hill Classic this weekend after defeating Bethany College 88-67 Sunday afternoon in Cincinnati.  The Lauren Hill Classic was hosted by Mount Saint Joseph University.

The Mountaineers built a double-digit lead midway through the first half and took a 20-point edge into the half.  The Bisons managed a couple of runs in the second half but each time the Mountaineers responded with a run of their own, maintaining a double-digit advantage throughout the second half.

Berea had five scorers reach double figures in the contest.  Sophomore Quae Charlton (Richmond, KY) led all scorers with 20 points in just 26 minutes of action to go with nine rebounds.  Junior Isaac Caudill (Blackley, KY) had 14 points and four steals.  Senior Terique Miller (Richmond, KY) and freshman Trey Minter (Louisville, KY) both added 11 points each and freshman Marquis Mackey (Lexington, KY) chipped in 10.

A pesky Berea defense forced 22 turnovers which the Mountaineers used to create a 28-2 points off turnover margin.  The Mountaineers shot 47% from the field for the game, including 12-28 from behind the arc.

The Mountaineers are now 2-2 on the season and return home Saturday night for a 6:00 PM game against Campbellsville-Harrodsburg.  Saturday's game marks the return of Homecoming to the Berea College campus.
