Berea, KY – The Berea College women's basketball team forced 26 turnovers and rolled to a 71-46 win over Spalding University Monday evening in the Seabury Center.
The Mountaineers' stifling defense led to early fast-break opportunities as Berea mounted a 24-5 lead after the opening period. For the game Berea held a 21-3 advantage in fast-break points and scored 29 points off turnovers. The Mountaineers also controlled the boards, out-rebounding the Golden Eagles 57-43 leading to 31 second-chance points.
Sophomores
Destiny Combs (Louisville, KY) and
Aaliyah Hampton (Hopkinsville, KY) both notched double-doubles as Combs scored 12 points and grabbed 15 boards while Hampton netted 14 points to go along with 11 rebounds. Senior
Leah Parker (Livingston, TN) led all scorers with 15 points and senior
Bailee Vanover (Richmond, KY) and freshman
Dailyn Spalding (Lebanon, KY) chipped in nine apiece.
The Mountaineers close the fall semester with a 9-3 overall record, including a 4-0 mark in conference play. The team will pause for Christmas break before resuming USA South conference play against Agnes Scott on Saturday, January 8, at 2:00 PM in the Seabury Center.
