Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Berea Drops Season Opener on the Road

LaGrange, GA- Berea women's soccer team traveled to LaGrange College for their season opener. Both teams competed well in a fast paced first half, but the Mountaineers fell short versus the Panthers and lost 3-1.

In the first half, the Panthers took advantage of a whirlwind of the first 10 minutes of the game, capitalizing on a foul in the box. Sydney Dailey capitalized on the penalty kick, giving the Panthers a quick 1-0 lead. The Panthers kept the pressure on the Mountaineers, getting another goal within 2 minutes of the first goal through a deflection off of a Mountaineer. The goal was awarded to Taylor Hamm. However, within the minute of the Panthers' second goal, the Mountaineers were able to score a goal of their own, Freshman Gabrielle Scott was able to score the first goal of her colligate career, assisted by Junior Alanis Daugherty. The game settled down for both the Panthers and Mountaineers for most of the first half, until a through ball from Sydney Dailey set up a goal for Anna Brown in the 38th minute. The Mountaineers ended the 1st half down 3-1.

In the second half the Mountaineers came out on the offense, pushing the ball to the final third with relentless pressure. Berea took advantage of every opportunity that they were given but were unable to execute. With the Mountaineers putting relentless pressure on the Panthers defense, the Panthers were able to shrug off the Mountaineers' offense and counter them with strong counter-attacks. The half ended scoreless with the Mountaineers having 5 shots on goal to the Panthers' 3.

Berea's Perris Colemon-Harville had 10 saves, with Freshman Gabrielle Scott scoring the only goal for the Mountaineers. The Mountaineers and the Panthers both had 10 shots on goal.

Up next, the Mountaineers will be back on the road against Brevard College on Saturday, February 20th at 1 pm.
