BEREA, KY. – The Mountaineers fell to Brevard College 79-67 to begin the season's final series with the Brevard College Tornados. The Mountaineers scored in bunches and had four players that scored in double digits: Trey Minter, Jarel Montgomery, Terique Miller and Mitchell Embree, but were unable to get the win in their first home game of the season.
The Mountaineers were led by Freshman Trey Minter (Louisville, KY), with 16-points in the game. Minter was 6-16 from the field, also going 2-8 from beyond the arc. Minter also added 3 rebounds. Behind Minter was senior Jarel Montgomery, who scored 15 points and added 4 rebounds and 2 assists. Minter and Montgomery accounted for over 46% of the offensive production for the Mountaineers.
The Brevard College Tornados were led by Alex Wesig, who scored 18 points along with 3 assists, 2 rebounds, 1 block and 1 steal. The tornados had two other performances one being from Ladji Samoura with 14 points, 8 rebounds, and 2 steals, and the other performance was from David Sealy with 12 points, 10 rebounds and 3 steals.
The Mountaineers kept the game close for the first half with the Mountaineers being down one at half time. However in the second half, the Tornados proved too hard to handle for the Mountaineers with Brevard outscoring the Mountaineers by 11 in the half.
Up next, the Mountaineers will play the season finale at home against Brevard College on February 28, 2021. The game will start at 12:00 at Seabury Center.
