WILMORE, Ky. – The Berea College men's basketball team surrenders 54 second-half points, falling 96-70 to Asbury (Ky.) this afternoon.
The Mountaineers fall to 4-8 overall while the Eagles improve to 6-7.
Junior Isaac Caudill led the Mountaineers in scoring, finishing with 17 points while shooting three-for-seven from beyond the arc. Freshmen Trey Minter recorded 15 points while freshmen Jarel Montgomery and sophomore Kevion Miller each chipped in 10 points apiece.  
Berea grabbed the lead early, jumping out to a 6-0 lead a little over a minute into the game. Caudill scored the first points of the game on a mid-range jump shot. Hudson and Minter knocked down jump shots of their own to take the advantage with 18:50 remaining in the first half.
Asbury responded with a 9-3 run to tie the game with 15:01 left in the first half. Neither team could grab a strong lead for most of the first half. It seemed as if the Eagles would take a double-digit lead going into halftime, having a seven-point advantage with 3:54 remaining in the half, but layups by sophomore Tyler Boggs, freshmen Marquis Mackey, and Caudill cut the deficit to one with a little under three minutes remaining in the first frame and Asbury entered halftime with a 42-38 lead.
The second half was a different tale as the Eagles got hot from the three-point line, hitting 10-for-19 from beyond the arc. The Mountaineers were unable to match their foe's three-point shooting performance, shooting three-for-16 from beyond the arc as Berea would eventually fall 96-70 to Asbury.
The Berea College men's basketball team looks to bounce back against Covenant College (Ga.) on Wednesday, Jan. 12. Tipoff is scheduled for 8 p.m. in Lookout Mountain, Ga.
