BEREA, Ky. - The Berea College men's soccer team faced the Huntingdon College Hawks at home, coming away with a sweet 2-1 win on Senior Day.
With the win, the Mountaineers improve to 8-5-3 on the season and 2-2-1 in CCS play, where Berea is currently third in the conference standings. The Mountaineers outshot the Haws 19-11 and recorded four corner kicks.
The scoring opened with senior
Alexis Vargas beating the Hawks keeper Zack Moenter, to blast a shot into the cage during the 25th minute. Senior
Junior Gyamfi assisted Vargas to take the 1-0 lead. Mountaineer keeper senior
Luis Macias made three saves, including two rejections corner kicks.
During the 63rd minute, senior
Dalton Harris connected a pass to Gyamfi to execute another goal blasted off of the "hard toes". In the 82nd minute, Huntingdon's Austin Priemer cashes in to make the score 2-1. After cashing in on two goals the Mountaineers pass their conference litmus test laying the Hawks to bed.
The Berea College men's soccer team return to the pitch on Wednesday, as they travel to face Alice Lloyd College. Kickoff is scheduled for 6 p.m.
