Volleyball Finishes 2-1 in Conference Play this Week

BEREA, Ky.- The Berea Volleyball Team had a busy week playing in three Collegiate Conference of the South matches against Covenant College, LaGrange College, and Wesleyan College.
 
They started off the week by hosting the Covenant Scots on Tuesday, October 11. The Mountaineers started the game strong and won the first two set (25-20, 25-18).  However, the Scots came back and won the next 3 sets (25-19, 25-21, 15-11). The Mountaineers led the game in digs with 100 and in kills with 58 overall. Julie Santana led the team in kills with 18 kills, followed by Carolina Robles with 14 kills and Vanessa Ramic with 12 kills. Setter Idymel Ayala Rivera had 45 assists and 16 digs and libero Fabiana De Jesus led the team with 25 digs.
 
After a tough loss, the Mountaineers traveled to LaGrange, Ga. to play in a CCS Tri-match against La Grange College and Wesleyan College on Saturday, October 15. The volleyball team was able to add two more wins to their record.
 
Berea swept the first game beating the La Grange Panthers in three sets (25-5, 25-18, 25-18) Ramic led the Mountaineers with 10 kills followed by Hannah Martin and Santana with five kills each. Ayala Rivera led the team with 17 assist and eight digs.
 
In the second game of the day, the Mountaineers faced the Wesleyan College Bulldogs. Berea won the first two sets (25-19, 25-8), but lost the third one (25-20). However, the Mountaineers were able to finish strong and win the last set (25-15). Robles, Allana Knowles, and Brenda Davila led the team in kills with seven each. Ayala Rivera added 34 assists to the Mountaineers offense and De Jesus led the team with 13 digs.
 
The Mountaineers now stand at a 9-2 record in CCS and a 16-6 overall record. The volleyball team will be back in action this Tuesday, October 18 at 7:00 pm as they will travel to Tennessee to face Maryville College.
