DANVILLE, Ky. – Berea College won a hard-fought game against Centre College 64-58. Giving the Mountaineers their second win and putting them 2-0 on the season.
The Mountaineers came out strong in the first half shooting 40 percent (6-15) from three and were automatic from the free throw line hitting four of four. The Mountaineers also had a defense strong force against Centre only allowing them to put up 24 points in the first half and led 34-24 going into halftime.
The Mountaineers were led by senior guard
Isaac Caudill, who had 16 points, but sophomore guard
Jarel Montgomery was force on the glass grabbing nine rebounds. Right behind Caudill was freshman forward
Andrew Jones who had 14 points off the bench and put up five rebounds.
The Colonels were led by Chez Moore who had 23 points and 10 rebounds. Crumly shot nine of 14 from the field and went five for nine from the free throw line. Cade Stinnett also added 18 points and shot seven of 14 from the field.
In the end the great offensive effort by the Colonels was not enough as the Mountaineers held up strong and were able to put the nail on the coffin from tough buckets by freshman
Jaylen Black and a great charge taken by Caudill.
The Mountaineers had 15 points off turnovers, and 16 second chance points. Their defense forced 12 turnovers, had 35 rebounds and eight assists.
Up next, the Mountaineers will play William Peace at the Seabury Center (November 13th ). Tipoff is set for 2:00 p.m.
