BEREA, Ky. – The Berea College women's basketball team clinched its fourth USA South West Division regular-season championship in four seasons as they defeat Piedmont 81-73 on senior day in the Seabury Center.
The Mountaineers grab their 20th win of the season and hold a 20-4 overall record while being 14-1 in conference play. The Lions saw their 14-game winning streak snapped, falling to 20-4 and 13-2 in conference action.

Bailee Vanover led the way for the Mountaineers as they recorded 22 and 21 points, respectively. Along with her scoring efforts, Vanover had a great afternoon on the backboard, grabbing a season-high nine rebounds. Sophomore forward
Destiny Combs recorded her ninth double-double of the season as she totaled 13 points and 17 rebounds.
The first half was a closely fought battle as the Lions shot 57.6 percent (15-of-26) from the field to stay within six points. Despite Piedmont's efficient shooting performance, Berea's first-half three-point shooting gave them the advantage as they knocked down four of their six shots from beyond the arc to hold a 44-40 lead going into halftime.
The Mountaineers took control of the contest in the third quarter as they forced the Lions to shoot 14.3 percent (three-of-21) from the floor while outpacing them 18-9 in the third stanza. Piedmont pulled to within one point in the early part of the third quarter, but back-to-back scores by senior forward
Destanie Love and Combs ignited a 16-4 run as the Mountaineers never looked back, eventually walking away with an 81-73 victory to secure the regular-season title.
The Berea College women's basketball team takes a step out of conference play as they host Asbury University in their regular-season finale on Tuesday. Tipoff is scheduled for 6 p.m. in the Seabury Main Arena.
