MONTGOMERY, Ala. – Senior guard
Bailee Vanover scored a career-high 35 points as the Berea College women's basketball team defeated Huntingdon College (Ala.) 84-75 to push their winning streak to 13 games.
The Mountaineers improve their overall record to 19-3 and a perfect 13-0 in USA South Conference play. The Hawks fall to 7-12 and 3-7 in conference action.

Drea Satori finished the afternoon in double figures for the Mountaineers with 12 and 10 points, respectively. The Mountaineers won the rebounding battle securing 44 boards compared to the Hawk's 33.
Huntingdon began the contest quickly as two of their first three shots of the game were three-pointers to take an 8-3 lead. The Mountaineers took the lead with 4:15 left in the first quarter with a 6-0 run. Vanover started her career performance converting a layup to ignite the Mountaineer's run. The first quarter was a back-and-forth affair as the Hawks held a 21-17 lead to exit the first frame.
Vanover had a huge second-quarter performance as she scored 14 points for Berea. The Mountaineers took a four-point lead with 6:54 left in the half behind a 10-2 run as Vanover scored six of the Mountaineer's 10 points. Berea shot an efficient 55 percent (11-of-20) from the field and 100 percent (five-of-five) from the free-throw line to hold a 46-40 advantage at halftime.
The Mountaineers quickly pushed their lead to double digits as Vanover opened the second half with a mid-range jump shot and a layup to spark a 7-0 run as Berea led 53-40 with 7:28 left in the third quarter. Berea didn't hold a double-digit lead for long as the Hawks begin to trim the deficit and pulled the contest to within six points with 4:31 left in the third quarter.
Moving into the final quarter of the afternoon, a jump shot by Vanover gave Berea a 63-53 lead with 8:36 remaining. Just when it seemed the Mountaineers were about to put the game out of reach, the Hawks railed with a 10-0 run to tie the game with a little over five minutes left. Jayden Merriweather gave the Mountaineers some breathing room, but Huntingdon followed with consecutive made shots from beyond the arc to draw even once again.
With the game tied 71-71 with 2:46 remaining on the clock, Hampton converted a tough layup while drawing a foul for a trip to the charity stripe where she converted her free throw to give Berea a three-point lead. The Hawk's Ry Whetstone split her visit to the free-throw line on the following possession to trim the lead to two before Berea went on to outscore the Hawks 10-3 to take an 84-75 win.
The Berea College women's basketball team looks to remain undefeated in conference play and extend their winning streak tomorrow afternoon when they take on LaGrange College (Ga.). Tipoff is slated for 2 p.m. in LaGrange, Ga.
