BEREA, Ky. – The Berea College baseball team surrendered 19 hits as they give up the first of three games against Huntingdon College 25-7.
With the loss, the Mountaineers fall to 2-16 and 0-4 in USA South Athletic Conference play while the Hawks improve to 13-7 and 4-0 in conference action.
After a scoreless first inning, the Hawks grabbed a commanding lead in the top of the second as eight runs came across home plate. The Mountaineers chipped into the lead in the bottom of the second as freshman
Justin Brown recorded an RBI single to bring freshman
AJ Wylie in to score as Berea trailed 7-1.
Huntingdon continued to hit well as they scored five runs over the next three innings. The Mountaineers managed to score three runs in the bottom of the sixth as freshman
Bryan Long knocked a two-run home run and Brown picked up his second RBI of the afternoon on a ground out to score freshman
Kenneth Henderson to trail 15-4.
The Hawks continued to apply pressure to the Mountaineers as they scored 10 runs in the top of the seventh inning. Berea ended the contest on a high note, scoring three runs in the bottom of the seventh as Berea fell 25-7 to Huntingdon College.
Freshman
Peyton Hooper recorded the loss on the mound as he pitched 2.0 innings while striking out three of the 19 batters he faced.
The Berea College baseball team resumes its series against Huntingdon tomorrow with a seven-inning doubleheader. First pitch is slated for 1 p.m.
