Softball Sweeps Agnes Scott

DECATUR, Ga. – The Berea College softball team's bats were hot as they recorded 18 hits through two games to sweep Agnes Scott 2-0 and 11-7 on Sunday afternoon.

Game One Berea College 2, Agnes Scott 0
Berea had a good game hitting the softball as they recoded eight hits, however, nine runners were left on base.

After a scoreless five innings, the Mountaineers took a one-run lead as freshman Autumn Adams hit a single to center field, scoring senior Caroline Nelson. The scoring continued for Berea as with Adams on second base, freshman Madison Yates recorded a double of her own to bring Adams across home plate to give Berea a 2-0 lead.

Freshman Madison McIntosh earned a win on the mound for Berea0 tossing seven innings while striking out nine batters and only allowing six hits.

Game Two Berea College 11, Agnes Scott 7
The Scotties struck first as they hit an RBI single in left field to take a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the third inning. The Mountaineers had a huge fourth inning as they scored eight runs in their half of the inning. Senior Savannah Fallis started the big inning with an RBI single. Freshman Karlie Harris followed up with a single of her own to load the bases as junior Aubrey Sowders earned a walk on her at-bat scoring Nelson from third to take a 2-1 lead.

Fallis was the next Mountaineer to cross home plate before freshman Hayleigh Gnagie recorded a two-RBI single to extend the lead. The big scoring inning was wrapped up as McIntosh hit an RBI double, Gnagie scored on a wild pitch, and Nelson hit an RBI single as the Mountaineers took an 8-1 lead in the fourth inning.

The Scotties managed the damage by scoring three runs of their own in the bottom of the fourth on an RBI single and a two-run home run to trim the deficit 8-4.

Berea added three additional runs to their lead in the final innings of play as an RBI single from junior Juliann Kirby in the top of the fifth, along with a home run from Sowders and an RBI ground out by Gnagie in the top of the seventh pushed the Mountaineers to an 11-7 win to complete the sweep of the Scotties.

Adams secured the win on the mound in game two, tossing three innings while only allowing three hits and four runs.

The Berea College softball teams return to the diamond on Wednesday as they host Maryville College. First pitch is slated for 2 p.m. at the Berea College Athletics Complex.
