Softball Splits Contest in Day Two of the Spring Games

CLERMONT, Fla. – The Berea College softball team split their two contests of the day as they defeated Thomas College 9-6 and fell to D'Youville College 7-0 on Monday afternoon.

BEREA COLLEGE VS. THOMAS COLLEGE
The Mountaineer offense heated up quickly against Thomas College racking up five runs in the first inning with hits from freshman Madison McIntosh, junior Aubrey Sowders, and freshman Karlie Harris. Thomas College quickly answered back tying the game in the second inning, 5-5.

The Mountaineer defense held their ground as senior pitcher Caroline Nelson threw four shutout innings. The Mountaineer offense strung together hits from freshman Hayleigh Gnagie and senior Juliann Kirby to pull out a victory finishing the game with a score of 9-6. Senior Ashley Spencer shut the door on the Trainers with a double play to end the game as the Mountaineers secured their first win in Florida.

BEREA COLLEGE VS. D'YOUVILLE COLLEGE
The D'Youville University Saints took down the Mountaineers 7-0. Strong pitching and timely hitting assisted the Saints to the victory. Senior Savannah Fallis and freshman Temple Cunningham recorded the only hits of the game. Freshman pitcher Madison McIntosh came in for relief of Freshman Autumn Adams throwing two shutout innings.

The Mountaineers return to the diamond tomorrow as they face Swarthmore College at 10:15 p.m. and Marywood University at 12:30 p.m.
