James Records Double-Double in Win Over Covenant

Lookout Mountain, Ga.– The Berea College women's basketball team traveled to Georgia to play the Covenant College Scots on Wednesday and the Mountaineers ended the night with a 70-57 victory over the Scots.

This win puts the Mountaineers at 14-1 overall and 6-0 in conference play. Berea is also on a four-game win streak.

Leading the Mountaineers with 17 points and a career-high 12 rebounds (16 points in the paint and an additional free throw.) was freshman forward LynKaylah James, Sophomore guard Dailyn Spalding added 16 points and sophomore guard Drea Satori added 14 more points to lead the Mountaineers to a victory.

The Mountaineers started off the contest strong coming out of the first quarter with an 11-point lead. Berea held Covenant to just nine points in the first quarter, forcing the Scots into four for 16 shooting from the field.

The story changed a bit in the second quarter as it was Berea's turn to struggle from the field as they shot 28 percent in the second. Despite the poor shooting, the Mountaineers still tied the Scots with 13 points in the second quarter to take a 33-22 lead into halftime.

The Mountaineers turned around their shooting in the second half (42 percent in the third, 54 percent in the fourth), however, Covenant did as well (54 percent in the third, 44 percent in the fourth). While the Scots kept it close for much of the second half, the Mountaineers ended up with a 70-57 win to remain unbeaten in conference play.

The Mountaineers return to their home court this Saturday to take on Huntingdon College in a CCS contest at 2:00 P.M.
