MARYVILLE, Tenn.— The Berea College men's basketball team's winning streak came to an end at the hands of Maryville College, falling to the Scots 89-65 on Saturday evening.
The loss puts the Mountaineers at 11-8 overall and 3-3 in CCS play.
Sophomore
Trey Minter led the Mountaineers with 22 points while shooting nine-for-14 overall. Freshman
Jacob Yeary recorded a career-high 12 points as he hit three three-pointers and freshman
Bryce Riley added 10 points. Senior
Isaac Caudill was just short of a double-double with nine points and nine rebounds.
The start of the fist half was back-and-forth as neither side could create much separation. The Mountaineers held a nine-point lead when Caudill finished a layup with 7:17 left in the half, however the Scots used a 14-0 run to take lead 32-27 with just under a minute and a half remaining. Maryville converted a layup late in the first half to take a 34-27 lead into the break.
Maryville kept the lead to start the second half, keeping the deficit to at least 10 points. The Scots were able to expand their lead to over 20 points halfway through the second half. The Mountaineers continued to fight, but ultimately fell 89-65 to Maryville.
The Berea College men's basketball team looks to bounce back on Wednesday, hosting Covenant College. Tipoff is slated for 7 p.m. at the Seabury Center.
