BEREA, Ky. - The Berea College women's volleyball swept a pair of conference matches on Saturday in the Seabury Center.
In the opener, the Mountaineers defeated Belhaven University 3-0 (25-13, 25-19, 25-17). Berea's offense had 107 total attacks and 35 kills in the match, with
Deanna De La Torre and
Brenda Davila leading the team with nine each.Â
Idymel Ayala Rivera had 18 assists.
In their second match of the afternoon Berea soundly defeated Agnes Scott 3-0 (25-8, 25-16, 25-14). Seniors
Vanessa Ramic,
Brenda Davila and
Julie Santana paced the Berea attack with five kills each, while senior
Amanda Castro Diaz was the team leader in digs (7).
Just before the Agnes Scott match, Berea honored the playing careers of their six seniors -
Vanessa Ramic,
Brenda Davila,
Julie Santana,
Amanda Castro Diaz,
Isabel Marquez and
Hannah Martin, as well as team manager C.J. Verbeck.
Berea (14-10, 10-4 CCS) has won five straight conference matches and currently sits in a tie for third place heading into the final week of the conference schedule. The Mountaineers will host Spalding on Tuesday in a non-conference matchup before heading to Alabama next weekend for an important tri-match against host Huntingdon College and Piedmont University.Â
