MARYVILLE, Tn. - Senior
Joshua Szidik scored the game-winning goal on a penalty kick with 30 seconds remaining to lead Berea College to a 2-1 win over Maryville Tuesday night.
Szidik's goal capped a second-half comeback for the Mountaineers, who fell behind 1-0 just 10 minutes into the game when Maryville's Hayden MacDonald took a pass from Aidan McWilliams and was able to find the back of the net from 20 yards out. But the Berea defense locked down the Scots for the remainder of the match, with Berea keeper
Eris Acosta recording eight saves on 23 Maryville shots. Berea evened the contest at 1-1 in the 62:00 minute on a goal by
Carlos Field-Bennett, assisted by
Victor Hernandez. The game would remain deadlocked until Szidik's PK shot found the lower left-corner of the goal.
The Mountaineers return home to face LaGrange in CCS play this Saturday, with the start of the game scheduled for 1:00 PM in Berea.
