Cincinnati, OH - Junior
Trey Minter scored 17 points and the Berea College men's basketball team hit 12 three-pointers to defeat Mount St. Joseph University 82-73 Saturday evening.
Berea did most of their damage behind the arc early in the game, knocking down 10-14 shots from long-range enroute to a 48-30 lead at the half. The Mountaineers built a 22-point advantage early in the second half after a jumper from freshman
Jae'dyn Gist and maintained a comfortable lead for much of the second half. The Lions managed to mount a comeback late in the game and pulled within five points, but a pair of free throws from both Minter and Gist secured the victory.
Junior guard
Ja'Rel Montgomery and sophomore forward
Bryce Riley scored 11 points each, with Gist chipping in 10. The balanced scoring attack was rounded out by freshman
Demetris Phillips, sophomore
Andrew Jones and junior
Marquis Mackey who each added nine points.
The win snaps a four-game skid for Berea (5-8), who will now begin CCS conference play. The Mountaineers host Covenant College next Tuesday, January 2, at 5:00 PM in the Seabury Center.
