Lookout Mountain, GA - Women's basketball emerged victorious with 67-61 win over Covenant.
LynKayalah James delivered another standout performance, registering a commanding double-double with 22 points and 11 rebounds, showcasing her consistent impact for the Mountaineers. Jayden Merriweather proved to be a force to be reckoned with, contributing 18 points and 8 rebounds, including an impressive display from beyond the arc, sinking 5 three-pointers out of her total 18 points. Additionally, Drea Satori secured 11 points and 8 rebounds.
In the start of the game, Covenant initially gaining a slight lead. However, the Mountaineers quickly found their rhythm within five minutes of the game, seizing control. Although Covenant persisted in their challenge, Berea maintained a lead throughout the game. As the game reached its crucial moments, Covenant managed to narrow the gap, with a three-pointer from Megan Rouse reducing the deficit to 67-59. Nevertheless, the Mountaineers' steadfast defense prevented Covenant from securing further scoring opportunities, effectively shutting down their attempts at a comeback. With 31 seconds remaining, a foul by Atyia Moss afforded Covenant an opportunity at the free-throw line, leading to a final score of 67-61 in favor of the Mountaineers.
Women's basketball will be at home Friday, February 2nd against Huntingdon College. Tip off is scheduled for 5:00PM.
