RICHMOND, IN – Berea College broke their losing streak with a thrilling 3-2 victory over Earlham College, capitalizing in the final minutes of the match. Despite creating several offensive opportunities, Berea was unable to convert any shots on goal in the first half, with a resolute defense holding strong until conceding a goal near the end of the period.
Roosvins Josil emerged from halftime to score an equalizer, leveling the game at 1-1 for Berea. A few minutes later, Tabore Takpor was awarded a penalty kick, which he successfully converted to put Berea ahead 2-1. However, Paul Mason of Earlham responded with a goal at the 71-minute mark, bringing the score to 2-2.
As the game neared its conclusion, a corner kick provided Berea the opportunity for the win. Victor Hernandez took a shot from just outside the penalty area, firing the ball low and past the outstretched goalkeeper. This goal proved to be the decisive strike, as Eris Acosta and the defense held off a final push from the Quakers in the closing seconds of the match.
With the victory, Berea moves into a tie with Earlham in the conference standings, now positioned in 5th place. The Mountaineers had a strong second half, registering 12 shots out of a total of 19.
