WOMEN'S BASKETBALL WEEK 1 RECAP

WOMEN'S BASKETBALL OPENS SEASON WITH TWO VICTORIES AT MILLSAPS TIP-OFF CLASSIC

Game 1: Berea Secures Season-Opening Victory Over Belhaven University (72-57)
Location: Jackson, MS
The Berea College Mountaineers kicked off their season impressively at the Millsaps Tip-Off Classic, defeating Belhaven University 72-57. Berea established a strong lead early, finishing the first quarter with a score of 19-9. LynKaylah James recorded a double-double with 19 points and 15 rebounds, while Jayden Merriweather contributed 17 points, including three crucial three-pointers, along with 8 rebounds and 6 steals. Drea Satori added 14 points, 3 rebounds, and a team-high 5 assists. The Mountaineers maintained their momentum into the second quarter, outscoring Belhaven 21-17 and heading into halftime with a solid 14-point advantage. Overall, Berea capitalized on 22 points off turnovers and controlled the paint effectively.

Game 2: Mountaineers Defeat Millsaps College (77-66)
Location: Jackson, MS
In their second game of the season, the Mountaineers secured a hard-fought victory against Millsaps College, winning 77-66. Although they trailed slightly at the end of the first quarter (18-20), Berea found their rhythm in the second quarter, outscoring Millsaps 26-15 for a 44-35 halftime lead. LynKaylah James was instrumental once again, scoring 19 points and leading with 9 rebounds. Payton Bugg added a significant impact off the bench with 19 points, including 3 three-pointers and 8 successful free throws. Jayden Merriweather contributed 14 points, while Drea Satori added 9 points and 7 assists. Berea's defense held strong, limiting Millsaps' scoring opportunities and blocking several shots.
