BEREA COLLEGE MOUNTAINS DEFEAT ASBURY COLLEGE 75-68 AND SQUEEZE BY SEWANEE 74-70

Game 1: Berea Defeats Asbury College 75-68
Location: Wilmore, KY
The Berea College men's basketball team kicked off their season with a solid performance against Asbury College, winning 75-68. After facing an early deficit, the Mountaineers rallied in the second half to outscore Asbury and tighten their defensive approach. The team showcased an impressive 41-point second half, led by Trey Minter.

Game 2: Berea College Edges Sewanee 74-70
Location: Berea, KY
The Mountaineers continued their strong start to the season with a comfortable win over Sewanee, finishing with a score of 74-70 on their new court. From the outset, Trey Minter and Demetris Phillips were on fire, both hitting three-pointers in the first three minutes. With Berea leading 10-9, Minter nailed another three to extend their lead to four points.

Despite the back-and-forth scoring, Berea's Marquis Mackey and Andrew Jones contributed to a 10-point run, while Phillips added two contested layups upon returning to the game. With a dominant first-half performance, Minter and Phillips combined for a significant portion of the team's 39 points by halftime.

In the second half, Berea maintained their momentum with three-pointers from Anthony Hamm, Marquis Mackey, and Ja'Rel Montgomery, increasing their lead to 14 points with 11 minutes left. However, miscommunications and turnovers allowed Sewanee to cut the deficit to just four points with 4.5 minutes remaining. A crucial steal by Sewanee led to a dunk, making the score 72-70.

Berea called a timeout with less than 30 seconds left, holding onto their two-point lead. Demetris Phillips secured a vital defensive rebound, drew a foul, and converted both free throws, sealing the game with a final score of 74-70.

Berea improved to 2-0 on the season and will travel to Centre College on November 15 to take on the Colonels. The game is set to start at 7:30 PM.
