Softball Drops First Contest of the Season to Asbury

Berea, KY - Berea Softball played against Asbury University in a double header matchup at home. The Mountaineers came out of the doubleheader 0-2.
 
Game One: Asbury - 14 Berea - 0
 
In the first game of the season for the Mountaineers, Berea lost the game 14-0 in five innings. Kylee Tudor and Maya Meads split the pitching down the middle this game, with Kaylee throwing for 96 total pitches recording 4 strikeouts in the first two and a half innings. Then the reliever Maya Meads came in and recorded 4 strikeouts in a total of 78 pitches for the rest of the game.
 
Game Two: Asbury - 13 Berea - 3
 
In game two of the double header Berea started off hot with a first inning RBI-single by Aubrey Sowders. Asbury comes back with 3 straight runs, making the score 3-1 going into the bottom of the third inning. Aubrey Sowders hot bat continues hitting a solo shot over the fence homerun to reduce the deficit to 3-2 going into the fourth inning.
 
Asbury scores 1 run in the top of the fifth inning to make the score 4-2. Then later that inning, Aubrey Sowders gets another RBI-single earning another run for Berea. Now making the score 4-3. In the top of the sixth, Asbury scored 9 runs to close out the contest with a final score of 13-3.
 
When it came to batting this game, Maggie Dickson went 2 for 3 scoring 2 runs for the Mountaineers. Then you have Aubrey Sowders going 3 for 3 with 3 RBIs and a Homerun.
 
The pitching went with Kylee Tudor and Maya Meads splitting the pitches this game. With Kylee Tudor throwing for 78 pitches with 1 strikeout in three and a half innings of play. Then Maya Meads comes in and throws 80 pitches with 3 strikeouts in two and a half innings of play.
 
The Mountaineers will be on the road to Manchester University for a doubleheader on Saturday. The first pitch is expected to be thrown at 1 p.m.
