Softball Struggles in Doubleheader Against Piedmont University

Berea, KY- The Mountaineers face Piedmont University in a double header matchup. The Mountaineers lost both games, with the scores being 1-21 and 6-17. 

Game One: Berea 1, Piedmont University 21

Piedmont came into the game rolling, scoring six runs in the top of the first inning. The Mountaineers started off cold, not being able to score any runs in the first inning. Going into the top of the second, Piedmont puts up three runs, and your Mountaineers are still struggling to get on the board. After a scoreless third inning for Piedmont, the Mountaineers got one on the board from a single by Julie Santana, scoring Maggie Dickson. The Mountaineers were scoreless the last two innings of the game, but Piedmont scored two runs in the top of the fourth and 10 in the top of the fifth. The final score of the game was 21-1, with Piedmont University coming out on top.

Game Two: Berea 6, Piedmont University 17

Rolling over into game two at the top of the first inning, Piedmont's streak continued, with them scoring four runs to get on the board. The Mountaineers remained scoreless for the first three innings of the game. Piedmont was scoreless in the top of the second inning but managed to put up four runs on the board at the top of the third inning. Piedmont stayed on the board, scoring one run in the top of the fourth, but the Mountaineers answered back, scoring 5 runs off a double from Mackenzie Howell, a single from Kylee Tudor, a single from Maya Meads, and a single from Jailyn Ginter. Going into the top of the fifth inning, Piedmont scored 5 runs, and the Mountaineers only scored one run from a home run by Mackenzie Howell. Piedmont kept adding to their lead, scoring five runs in the top of the fifth. The Mountaineers were scoreless in the bottom of the fifth, leaving the final score of the game to be 17-6.

The Mountaineers next game will be March 19, 2024, against Asbury University.
