BEREA, KY - The Men's and Women's Track & Field team kicked off this outdoor season at home with the 2024 Mountaineer Open on Saturday, March 23. 
 
Several members of the team displayed outstanding performances, including 4 mixed relay teams who went neck-and-neck to finish out the meet in friendly competition. Berea A took first in the meet with a time of 3:46.47 (
Quinncey Gibson, 
Jerneisha Lewis, 
Kymiah Blair, 
Christoff Mendy). 
 
Sophomore Abigail Hockstock had a successful day in Women's hammer throw, taking the second place spot with a distance of 37.63m. This mark garnered a new personal best for Abigail by several meters. 
 
The Women's long jumpers took the top three spots in the event Saturday morning. Junior 
Jerneisha Lewis took first place in Women's long jump with a mark of 5.16m, and a new personal best in the event. Freshman Ashiya Maddicks took second (4.96m) and junior 
Jakeisha Lewis took third (4.83) 
 
Senior 
DeMarcus Smith also snatched first place and a new personal best in Men's javelin with a mark of 48.47m. 
 
Jasiella Grandy smashed her old 5k personal best by over 6 minutes and won first place in Women's 5k with a time of 20:48.97. 
 
Jaleesa Herman placed first in the Women's 100m dash with a time of 13.25. 
 
Other notable races for the Men's team include 
Robert Immell grabbing first place in the Men's 1500m run (4:11.33) and Gloire Muzeba placing first in the 800m (2:02.59)
 
Saturday proved a good start for Berea's outdoor season as they head to Centre College this Saturday, March 30.
