Mountaineers Weather the Storms and Perform Under the Lights

DANVILLE, KY-  Through the rain, wind, hail, and lightning, mountaineers preserver in order to run at the Centre Twilight.

Caleb Wilson looked to build off his amazing senior day last week, grabbing personal records in both long and triple jump. However, with a controversial long jump mark (6.24m or 20 feet and 5 and three-quarter inches) he missed finals by one place where he was mark only at. Struggles continued in the mens triple jump as he was marked a foul jump three times. Senior Larry Branch looked for revenge in his jump series after struggling in mens long jump last week. Branch was able to capture 5th with a mark of 42' 2.75".

Anthony Boggs continues to be consistent with his discuss throw, tossing a 27.24m rocket on his third attempt. Boggs and thrower Kenguruka Promesse were able to throw a decent 28.71 and 22.38m hammer throw despite the wet conditions. Elise Kemp and Kyonna Ross also competed in the hammer throw and placed 7th and 8th respectfully with throws of 35.13m and 32.00m. Ross then threw a massive personal record in the shot put, increasing her best by almost a foot and a half.

Ashley Bailey and Angel Patterson tried their hand at the women's pole vault and both came out with new personal records; Bailey with 2.00m and Patterson with 2.45m. Dillon Gregg also left with a new personal best of 2.75m in the men's pole vault.

In the running events Christoff Mendy dominated the mens 400m with a win three tenths of a second faster than second place. His time of 49.33 is also a new seasons best and 0.02 of of his all time personal best. Ashyia Maddickes (1:00.86) and Katerina Kovalevskaya (1:03.24) both also weather the storm to take top 10 in the women's 400m. Kymiah Blair took second into a head wind of -2.1m clocking a time of 25.49. In the mens 800m a trio of freshman mountaineers ran under 2.04.00. Jonathon Bolanos being one of them also ran a spectacular 1500m in 4:14.11. In the women's 800m Peyton Potts ran close to her personal bet in a time of 2:34.85. Madison Stonestreet dominated her 1500 with a time 4:52.60, over ten seconds faster then second place. Quinncey Gibson ran a new personal best in the 110m high hurdles (18.03) into a very strong headwind of -3.3m. New to hurdling, Brianna Dowell made a 2nd place effort of 1:17.01 in the 400mh for the women. The 3000m steeple chase was occupied by Andrew Bratcher who ran a time of 11:50.38.3. In the women's steeple chase, Chrystal Cornwell and Jasiella Grandy dove in and captured 6th and 8th.

The Mountaineers get little rest as they travel to get a glimpse of their conference rival Marysville in Tennessee tomorrow.
