Baseball Recap: Mountaineers Compete in Three-Team Series at Eastern Kentucky University

Game 1: Mountaineers vs. Kalamazoo College

The men's baseball team returned to action this past weekend, hosting a three-team series at Eastern Kentucky University. The opening game featured Kalamazoo College out of Michigan. The Mountaineers kept the contest close through the first four innings, trailing just 3–2. Kalamazoo then broke the game open with five runs in the fifth inning and ten more in the sixth, pulling away for a 21–3 victory in seven innings.

The Mountaineers recorded two hits in the game, with Ty Palmgren and Miguel Serra each collecting one. On the mound, Spencer Blackwell pitched four innings, striking out two while allowing five hits and three earned runs.


Game 2: Mountaineers vs. Carroll University

The second game of the weekend matched the Mountaineers against Carroll University out of Wisconsin. Berea put together a strong performance through the first seven innings, trailing by just three runs at 7–4. Carroll then broke the game open by scoring five runs in the eighth inning and five more in the ninth, securing a 17–6 victory.

The Mountaineers totaled 14 hits in the contest. Miguel Serra was perfect at the plate, going 4-for-4 with an RBI. Giovanny Ortiz added three hits and drove in a run, while Spencer Blackwell and Michael Mauney each recorded two hits. On the mound, Ederick Rivera got the start for the Mountaineers, pitching five innings while allowing five hits and three earned runs, striking out two.


Game 3: Mountaineers vs. Wittenberg University

The third and final game of the weekend saw the Mountaineers take on Wittenberg University. Berea struggled early, falling behind 10–1 after the first three innings. Despite scoring three runs over the final two innings, the Mountaineers ultimately fell 14–4 in seven innings.

The Mountaineers collected seven hits in the contest, with contributions from Peter Torbicki, Giovanny Ortiz, Ty Palmgren, Miguel Serra, Sebastian Roman, and Lawrence Griffey.
