Men's Basketball Recap: Mountaineers Close Regular Season and Compete in Conference Tournament

Game 1: Mountaineers at Mount St. Joseph
The men's basketball team closed out the regular season with a road trip to Ohio to face conference opponent Mount St. Joseph. The Mountaineers struggled out of the gate, getting off to a slow start in the first half and heading into halftime trailing 41–25. The second half featured back-and-forth action as the Mountaineers increased their defensive pressure, but the early deficit proved too much to overcome. Mount St. Joseph ultimately pulled away for a 73–60 victory.
The Mountaineers were led by senior Bryce Riley, who recorded a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds. Senior Andrew Jones added 8 points and 3 rebounds, while freshman Casen Nobbe chipped in 9 points. Zach Hudson contributed 7 points and dished out 5 assists.
Game 2: Mountaineers at Transylvania
The Mountaineers opened conference tournament play this past Saturday on the road at Transylvania. Berea entered the tournament as the No. 8 seed, while Transylvania claimed the top seed. This matchup marked the third meeting between the two teams this season, with the first two contests going in favor of Transylvania.
The Mountaineers got off to a slow start, struggling to find a rhythm offensively and string together consecutive defensive stops. Transylvania capitalized and took a 44–32 lead into halftime. The second half showed significant improvement for the Mountaineers, as they stayed within striking distance down the stretch but ultimately fell 88–79.
Senior Bryce Riley led the Mountaineers with 22 points and 7 rebounds. Senior Anthony Hamm added 15 points, while senior Andrew Jones contributed 11 points and 5 rebounds. The loss brought the Mountaineers' season to a close, as they finished with an overall record of 9–17 and a conference mark of 5–13.
