Berea Men's Soccer Earns Win Before Tough Road Weekend

BEREA, Ky. — The Berea College men's soccer team experienced a mixed three-match stretch this past week, capturing a decisive home victory before dropping a pair of hard-fought road contests in North Carolina. The week's results moved the Mountaineers to 3–4–2 overall on the season.

Match 1: Berea 3, Asbury 1
Sept. 16 | Berea, KY

Berea College men's soccer returned home Wednesday night to host Asbury University at the Berea Sports Complex. The Mountaineers started quickly when Ramesh Gorantla scored in the ninth minute off an assist from Ombeni Shandera. Asbury responded in the 21st minute when Tyson Absher found the back of the net, sending the teams into halftime tied 1–1.

Berea took control in the second half as Tobore Takpor scored twice within three minutes, finding the net in the 52nd minute before striking again in the 55th minute off an assist from Gorantla. The Mountaineers dominated the stat line with a 19–10 advantage in total shots (10–1 on goal) to secure the 3–1 victory.

Match 2: Brevard 2, Berea 0
Sept. 19 | Brevard, NC

The Mountaineers traveled to Brevard, North Carolina, on Saturday afternoon to face Brevard College. Berea had an early opportunity to take the lead when Takpor's penalty kick was saved in the fifth minute.

Brevard took a 1–0 lead in the 32nd minute and extended its advantage to 2–0 in the 76th minute. Shortly after the second goal, Andres Hernandez received a red card, forcing Berea to play a player down for the remainder of the match. Despite generating 14 shots and earning eight corner kicks, Berea was unable to break through.

Match 3: Warren Wilson 1, Berea 0
Sept. 20 | Asheville, NC

Berea closed out the weekend Sunday afternoon against Warren Wilson College in Asheville, North Carolina. The two teams battled through a scoreless first half before Warren Wilson broke the deadlock in the second half to take a 1–0 lead.

The Mountaineers continued to press for an equalizer, finishing with 13 shots (five on goal) and six corner kicks. However, Warren Wilson held on to hand Berea the narrow 1–0 setback.
