Jane Jawor enters her first season as an Assistant Coach, specializing in coaching the throwing events.
“Having a coach of Jane’s caliber join our program is an immeasurable addition,” said Coach Mike Thomas. “She has developed high-quality throwers at every level of her coaching career. Her extensive experience and dedication will be crucial to the growth of our Mountaineer Throws program.”
Jawor spent five seasons coaching at Bates College, where she contributed to the program’s notable achievements, including training Liz Wanless, the first national champion in women’s athletics at Bates, in the shot put. She also coached Keelin Godsey, a multiple-time All-American in the shot put and discus. Between her tenures at Bates, Jane developed numerous state champions in Maine. Most recently, she coached a squad of thirty throwers at Lewiston High School, including a national competitor in the shot put and discus.
A graduate of Lewiston High School (Maine) in 1986, Jawor excelled in the discus, javelin, and shot put, setting state records in all three events. She won the Nike Indoor Nationals in shot put in 1986 before continuing her athletic career at the University of Tennessee.
At Tennessee, Jawor was a three-time All-American in the javelin and holds the number three all-time mark in women’s javelin for the Volunteers.
While coaching at Lewiston High School (2001-2003), Jawor became the first female head coach of a boys’ indoor and outdoor track and field program in the state of Maine. She was inducted into the Auburn-Lewiston Hall of Fame in 2013.
