Men's Hoops Takes Down Union College 74-70

Box Score

Union College (6-2) is a perennial NAIA Top-25 team.  They are big, physical and shoot well from long range; and, today the Berea College Mountaineers (2-0) proved they were as big, as physical, and can shoot just as well.  The Blue Crew knocked off the Bulldogs in a wild contest in the Seabury Center in the final game of the 2014 Rainmaker Hospitality Shootout presented by the Comfort Inn and Suites.

Berea continued to use frequent substitutions to keep the freshest of legs on the floor, while playing as up tempo as possible.  That up tempo style came in handy at creating fatigue for the Bulldog big men.  Berea also had an extremely hot hand from beyond the 3-point arc as they went 5-6 (.833) to give themselves a 36-31 lead at halftime.

They would need everybit of that lead as Union picked up their offensive game in the second stanza.  The Bulldogs cut the lead to just two points in the waining seconds of the half but timely shooting by Richard Parker created the space needed to record the victory.

The Mountaineers were again led by Parker's 21 points, followed by London Moore's 12 and Anthony Myrks 11.  Tevin Webster led the way in rebounds with seven, while teammate Dominique Garmon grabbed six.

The Blue Crew will be back in action on Saturday, November 29 at 1:00 pm when they host the Eagles of Embry-Riddle University in a post-Thanksgiving contest.  ERU is coached by Berea College alumnus Steve Ridder.
