Box Score In the final game of the season, the women's soccer team engaged in an intense physical battle against the Asbury Lady Eagles. Heavy on defense early in the first half, the Mountaineers were able to keep Asbury from scoring, but struggled on the offensive side of the ball.
Berea goalie Annie Hammel racked up a total of six saves curving Asbury's attempts to score. The game intensified for the Mountaineers after Courtney Conyers added some offensive punch with a shot saved by Asbury followed by two more shots by Mary Esther States at the 23 minute mark and Maria Diaz in the 32nd minute. Asbury broke the tie scoring the first goal of the game at the 38:05 mark.
Asbury went up 2-0, when they scored midway through the second half. The Mountaineers would rally back; first with a shot that went wide right by midfielder Caitlin Taulbee. Asbury adjusted increasing their defensive intensity and the result was a series of seven fouls, including one in the box that gave the Mountaineers a penalty kick. Courtney Conyers made that opportunity count as she blasted the ball past the Asbury goalkeeper's diving save attempt and scored Berea's lone goal of the game with just under 10 minutes remaining.
The Mountaineers finish their 2014 season with a 2-11-1 record.
