Hanover downs Berea in Men's Soccer Action, 1-0 at the Transylvania University Classic.
Day two of the Transylvania University Classic proved to better than the first for the Mountaineers, but yet not good enough as the men fell to Hanover College 1-0 on Sunday afternoon in Lexington. The match-up between NCAA Division III members was physical to say the very least as it featured a combined 21 fouls (10 for Hanover and 11 for Berea) and four yellow cards (one for Hanover and three for Berea).
For the second game in a row the Berea offense could not find pay dirt. Junior, defender Brad Camenisch's two shots served as the extent of the Berea offense. Camenisch's first shot did not come until the 55:35 mark and sailed wide right. His second shot of the day, nearly found its mark, before being batted away by the Hanover goalie.
Mountaineer goalkeeper, freshman Garrison Wagner was brilliant today as he made five first half saves to keep Berea in the contest. The loan goal came just before halftime, on a Hanover penalty kick. The Berea defense stiffened in the second half as Hanover could not muster a single shot on goal in the second half.
The team will be back in action on Thursday, September 4th when they travel down I-75 to take on Crown College at 4:00 pm.
