Berea Drops Heartbreaker to Midway

Box Score

Midway scores in the 86th minute to win 1-0,

Defense ruled the day for the Berea College women's soccer game tonight in their match-up with former KIAC rivals, Midway College; at least for 86 of the 90 regulation minutes.   The first half was a back and forth battle with Midway getting several looks only to be denied by BC goalkeeper Annie Hammell (SR/Parkersburg, WV), the BC defense-women and on one occasion, the cross-bar.  While Berea had several chances and corner kicks, they could not put a shot-on-goal during the first half.

The second half was much like the first as Midway kept the ball in their zone for most of the game, and the BC defense stiffened and held time after time -  right up until the 86:44 mark, when Midway's Lauren Schuster's unassisted shot found the corner and broke the Mountaineers' hearts.  The Berea offense was led by Jaquie Zimmerman and Stevie Reidley who both registered second-half shots-on-goal.  Hammell recorded six saves on the seven shots on goal she faced in goal.

The Blue Crew will be back in action on Saturday, when they host Johnson University at 2:00 pm at the Berea Soccer Complex
