Cincinnati, OH – Turnovers proved costly as the men's basketball team fell to Heidelberg 77-70 Saturday evening to open the Lauren Hill Classic hosted by Mount Saint Joseph University.
The Mountaineers committed 23 turnovers for the game leading to a 31-8 deficit in the points off turnover margin. Heidelberg also held a 50-26 advantage on points in the paint. Despite these margins, Berea kept the game within a single possession before Heidelberg closed the ballgame on a 12-8 run over the final five minutes of play.
Berea shot 44% from the floor, including a 5-10 mark from three-point range, to keep the game close. Sophomore
Quae Charlton (Richmond, KY) led the Mountaineers in scoring with 22 points. Sophomore
Kevion Hudson (Louisville, KY) and freshman
Thomas Spencer (Monticello, KY) contributed 10 points each.
Berea (1-2) will continue play in the Lauren Hill Classic tomorrow as they square off with Bethany College (WV). Tip is scheduled for 4:00 PM for that contest.
