Berea, KY - The Mountaineers won a hard-fought battle against the LaGrange College Panthers Saturday afternoon to secure a homecoming victory by a final score of 72-65.
The Panthers led the game for much of the first half and were ahead 31-30 going into the break. The Mountaineers surged ahead in the third quarter outscoring the Panthers 21-17 and repeated that same margin in the fourth for the final advantage.
Sophomores
Aaliyah Hampton (Hopkinsville, KY) and
Destiny Combs (Louisville, KY), along with senior
Bailee Vanover (Richmond, KY) carried the Mountaineer offense. Hampton scored 19 points, Vanover tallied 14 and Combs added 12. Combs had a team-high eight rebounds and Vanover pulled seven boards. For the game Berea shot 40% from the floor but were just 15-36 from the charity stripe.
The Mountaineers are back in action at home Sunday at 1:00 PM against conference rival Huntingdon College.
