Berea, KY - The Mountaineers won a hard-fought battle against the Sewanee Tigers on Tuesday afternoon to secure their fifth straight victory to open the season.
Berea controlled the game early, building a double-digit lead late in the first half of play, and headed into the break up 33-19. After extending their lead in the third period, the Mountaineers withstood a late rally from the Tigers in the 4
th period to finish off the 66-55 win.
Sophomore
Destiny Combs (Louisville, KY) tallied her fourth double-double of the season, scoring 12 points and grabbing a career-high 24 rebounds. Senior
Bailee Vanover (Richmond, KY) had a team-high 16 points and five assists. Sophomore
Aaliyah Hampton (Hopkinsville, KY) netted 12 points and had five steals in the win.
For the game, Berea shot 37% from the field, including 4-17 from behind the arc, and 67% from the charity stripe.
The Mountaineers (5-0, 2-0 USA-S) will take a few days off for Thanksgiving before opening play in the Pat Deacon Tournament this weekend. Berea will face tournament host Transylvania University on Saturday at 1:00 PM before squaring off with Alma College Sunday at 1:00 PM.
