Women’s Basketball Suffers First Loss After Slow Second Half

Lexington, KY – The Berea College women's basketball team scored just 14 points in the second half of a 67-47 loss to Transylvania University Saturday afternoon in the Pat Deacon Tournament.

The Mountaineers played a great first half, shooting 41% from the floor, including 5-9 from three-point range, for a 33-29 advantage at intermission.  Berea extended their lead to six points on a jumper by sophomore Aaliyah Hampton (Hopkinsville, KY) just seconds into the second half.  But that would prove to be one of only three field goals scored by the Mountaineers in the second half of play.  After Hampton left with an injury early in the half, Berea made only 2-27 shots from the floor for the duration of the game.

Hampton finished with 19 points.  Senior Leah Parker (Livingston, KY) added eight points and sophomore Destiny Combs (Louisville, KY) had a team-high eight rebounds to go along with seven points.

Berea (5-1, 2-0 USAS) will finish play in the Pat Deacon Tournament hosted by Transylvania University Sunday afternoon when they face Alma College.  Tip-off is scheduled for 1:00 PM.
