Lexington, KY – The Alma College Scots used a 21-7 first quarter to defeat the Berea College women's basketball team Sunday afternoon in the Pat Deacon Tournament hosted by Transylvania University.
The Mountaineers made just three of 20 field goal attempts from the floor in the opening period. Berea battled in the second quarter, trimming the Scots lead to nine points at the half. Alma responded by outscoring the Mountaineers 24-14 in the third quarter to take a 59-40 lead into the fourth quarter of play enroute to the 70-54 win. For the game, Berea shot 26% from the floor, including a 2-10 effort from beyond the arc.

Destiny Combs (Louisville, KY) posted a team-high 15 points and also grabbed six boards, while fellow sophomore
Aaliyah Hampton (Hopkinsville, KY) chipped in 12 points in limited action. Freshman Je
Kauri McKeithen (Richmond, KY) led the Mountaineers with nine rebounds. Following the weekend's games, Hampton was recognized as a member of the All-Tournament team. In just 46 minutes of action, Hampton netted 31 points and grabbed eight rebounds.
The Mountaineers finished the weekend tournament 0-2 along with fellow USA South conference member Piedmont University. Berea, now 5-2 (2-0 USA-S) on the season, will return to conference play Tuesday night when they travel to play Maryville College. That game is scheduled for a 6:00 PM start.
