Women’s Basketball Picks Up Key Conference Win in Overtime

Maryville, TN – The Berea College women's basketball team outlasted host Maryville College Tuesday night, earning a key conference road win by a score of 67-59 in overtime.

Berea trailed for much of the first quarter before freshman Drea Satori (Louisville, KY) made a layup with 53 seconds remaining for the 13-11 lead.  The Mountaineers would not trail again in the contest and led by as many as eight points on several occasions.  However, the Scots never yielded, tying the game at 36-36 in the third quarter and again at 56-56 when Maryville's Jordan Heifner took an inbounds pass and launched a deep three-pointer with one second left in regulation to force overtime.

The Mountaineers responded by scoring the first eight points in the extra frame and held on down the stretch for the win.

Three Berea players reached double-figures, including sophomore Aaliyah Hampton (Hopkinsville, KY) with a game-high 20 points.  Sophomore Destiny Combs (Louisville, KY) posted her fifth double-double of the season with 16 points and 21 rebounds and senior Bailee Vanover (Richmond, KY) had 13 points and four steals.  The Mountaineers out-rebounded the Scots 55-45 behind Combs and freshman Je'Kauri McKeithen (Richmond, KY), who grabbed nine boards.

The Mountaineers (6-2, 3-0) remain undefeated in the USA South Athletic Conference.  Berea will jump out of conference play this weekend, traveling to St. Louis, MO, to play in the McWilliams Tournament hosted by Washington University.  Berea opens tournament action Friday afternoon against Principia College at 4:30 PM.
