Pippa Passes, KY – Former KIAC foes Berea College and Alice Lloyd met on the hardwood Tuesday night in Pippa Passes with the Eagles winning 94-75 at home.
The Mountaineers held the early advantage, leading 28-20 midway through the first half after a fast-break layup by freshman
Trey Minter (Louisville, KY). But the Eagles countered with a 21-4 run over the next six minutes of play, grabbing a 41-32 lead. After leading by eight points at the break, Alice Lloyd used the paint to extend their advantage throughout the second half. The Eagles doubled up the Mountaineers on rebounds (54-27), producing a 28-6 edge in second-chance points.
Sophomore
Quae Charlton (Richmond, KY) led all scorers with 23 points. Minter chipped in 17 for Berea who, as a team, shot 42% from the field, but just 25% (3-12) from beyond the arc.
The Mountaineers (1-1) will be back in action on the road this weekend, playing in the Lauren Hill Classic hosted by Mount St. Joseph. Berea will open tournament play against Heidelberg University on Saturday night at 6:00 PM.
