Berea, KY.,
The Berea College volleyball program began the season with a 3-1 performance in the Berea Bash Tournament. The Mountaineers were able to comeback from an opening match loss to Rochester University to then dominate the rest of the tournament winning 3-1 against Adrian College twice and then 3-1 against Rochester College in the final match. Coach Duenens was able to achieve his first colligate win during the tournament.
Rochester 3, Berea 1:
The Mountaineers were able to keep all the games close in this match, losing 25-23, 26-24, and 28-26, but won the 3
rd set 25-18. The Mountaineers led Rochester in majority of the stats, outkilling the Warriors 58-42, 9 aces to 4 aces, and racking up more assists by a big margin, 51-39. However, the Mountaineers also caused more errors 32-20.
Deanna De La Torre was able to pick up where she left off from her previous season's campaign, leading the Mountaineers in kills with 17. Freshman
Idymel Ayala Rivera led the Mountaineers with 32 assists, and the Mountaineers returning libero Fabiana De'Jesus was able to led the team with 33 digs.
Berea 3, Adrian 1:
The Mountaineers were able to catch Adrian on the heels, by winning the first game 25-14. Afterwards, the Mountaineers were able to win the next two out of three sets, 25-22, 20-25, and 25-23. The Mountaineers were dominant in the scoresheet, outperforming the Bulldogs in every category.
Deanna De La Torre was again able to led the team and in the game in kills with 17 and also led the game in digs with 21. Freshman
Idymel Ayala Rivera led the game with 39 assists.
Berea 3, Adrian 1:
The Mountaineers were again able to beat Adrian 3-1, by winning the first two sets 25-23, 25-22, and the fourth set 25-19. The Mountaineers again dominated the scoresheet against the Bulldogs, leading every statistical category in the game.
Deanna De La Torre and
Brenda Davila were able to lead the Mountaineers and in the game in kills with 16. Freshman
Idymel Ayala Rivera was able to led the Mountaineers in assists and Fabiana De'Jesus led the team in digs with 25.
Berea 3, Rochester 1:
The Mountaineers were able to get revenge on the Warriors in the final game of the Berea Bash Tournament by beating the Warriors 25-17, 19-25, 25-22, and 25-21. The Mountaineers were able to dominate the scoresheet by leading the Warriors in every statistical category in the game.
Deanna De La Torre led the team in kills with 12, Fabiana De'Jesus led the team In aces and digs with 5 and 21 respectively, and
Idymel Ayala Rivera led the game with 36 assists.
